What Qualifies as an AC Emergency in Central Florida
Compressor Failure
The compressor is the main part of your system. When it fails, the unit runs and is unable to cool. The outdoor unit could start with a hard start, a clicking, or it may not start. Always a same-day call.
No Cold Air in Extreme Heat
If it’s a hot day out and heading toward 85 in the house, then that window of safe comfort is fast closing. Avoid playing with it for a couple of days to see how it goes.
Active Water Damage
When the drain from the air handler is clogged, it drips from the air handler. If your ceiling, floor, or attic is getting water on it, then it is an emergency. Water damage and mold quickly set in when left to their own devices for a few hours.
Burning or Electrical Smell
If something is burning from the vents or air handler, there is an electrical component in the air system that is overheated. Turn off the system at the breaker and contact us! It may escalate into a much bigger problem if it is run.
Breaker Tripping on Reset
If the AC breaker keeps tripping and tripping when you reset it, it’s because something is consuming too much power. It’s an electrical problem, and requires a technician’s eyes before you keep resetting it a third time.
Vulnerable Household Members
For anyone who is elderly, very young, or suffers from a health condition, the point at which you call us becomes earlier. Indoors, heat exhaustion occurs much more quickly than people think.
Urgent Warning Signs
7 Signs You Need Emergency Repair Right Now
These are the warning signs that it’s not worth waiting until Monday!
- The temperature in the indoor area has reached 85 degrees and is continuing to rise. Inside temperature above 85 degrees and rising. But at that stage, the fans are not sufficient. When the ambient temperature remains so high, the body has to work hard to cool itself by sweating. Don’t wait for hours, call now.
- Loud banging, screeching, or metal-on-metal sound from the unit. When a compressor or blower assembly bangs, it is likely that a loose part is free in the housing of the compressor or blower. Screeching typically is a symptom of motor bearings freezing. In either case, the damage is getting worse every minute it is operating.
- These vents are leaking gas, which results in a smell. This is the one that should have you switch off the system and dial 911. The burning of electrical components has a very strong and sharp odor. Don’t presume it is something else.
- Water actually flowing in streamers or jets from the air handler. If there’s a slow drip from the drain pan, then it’s a clog. A high-rise water leak is usually due to a leak that is flowing in volume, meaning there is water running somewhere it shouldn’t be, into the ceiling, walls, or attic insulation.
- The system will not respond in any way, no sounds and no airflow. If there is no response whatsoever, a tripped breaker, a blown fuse on the air handler, or a failed control board could be the cause. Some of those are short-term solutions. These all require a technician.
- Breaker trips immediately after reset. It is okay to reset a breaker, as long as it is only once. If it happens again immediately, a short or a fault is present in the system. Don’t keep resetting it; call us instead.
- Refrigerant leakage from the lines. If the refrigerant lines are close to the refrigerant and the copper tubing or air handler coil is covered with frost, then refrigerant is leaking. If the compressor is not sufficiently charged, it will fail.
Before We Arrive
What to Do While You Wait for Us
These measures will help ensure the safety of your home and may help to prevent further damage before our technician’s arrival.
Make Sure All Blinds and Curtains Are Closed
The sun is a major source of heat load, and it can be a real problem in a window. Shadings for the south and west sides of windows can help to reduce the build-up of temperatures by several degrees during the peak heat of the afternoon.
Make Your Way to the Lowest Floor
Heat rises. Two-storey houses will have the ground floor or basement remaining cooler for longer. Have everybody out on the lower level while waiting.
Stay Hydrated
Dehydration occurs at a rate greater than expected when the body is trying to adapt to changes in temperature. Have water on hand, particularly for children and older people, and do not drink alcohol or beverages containing caffeine during the period.
Switch Off Any Appliances That Generate Heat
Heat is being forced into your home by ovens, clothes dryers, and dishwashers. Switch them off until your AC is running again. Add up the lighting, to turn it down or off if you don’t need it.
If You Smell Burning, Shut Off the System
Shut off the AC circuit from your breaker panel. Please do not restart until the technician has checked it. If there is a burning odor, this is the most crucial action to take.
Ventilate Windows at Night When It Cools Off
In the middle of the state, evenings can get down in the mid to high 70s, particularly when away from the summer weeks in the season. When the outside temperature is lower than the inside temperature, open windows and run fans to remove heat from the home.
What We Carry on Every Truck
Repairs We Handle on Emergency Calls
If they don’t have the parts to fix it, then it’s not much of an emergency service. We have all the items that make up the bulk of the calls we receive in Central Florida in every Air & Aero truck.

Failed Capacitors
The most frequent call we receive in the summer months in Florida. If one of the capacitors is faulty, the entire system will be turned off. We stock run & start capacitors of all major brands and most models.
Refrigerant Leaks and Recharge
Locate, repair, and refill to specification. Refrigerant replacement, if not the repair, of a leak will result in another call in two months.
Contactors and Relays
These are the components that switch on and off the compressor and condenser fan. They are pitted and burned out, especially after the afternoon lightning storms in the afternoon in Florida. Used on all trucks.
Thermostat Failures
In other cases, the system may be perfectly fine, and the thermostat is simply unable to communicate, or it’s broken. Same-visit thermostat replacement standard and smart thermostats are available.
Condensate Drain Overflow
If the clog causes water damage, then it should be immediately cleared in order to prevent any further water damage. We have the treatment and equipment to clear the line and test the float switch.
Electrical and Circuit Board Issues
Every truck is equipped with a fuse, disconnect switch, and common control board. For more specific boards, we will source the part from our supplier and let you know the time frame for delivery as well as return as soon as possible.

We don’t simply deal with the outward symptoms and get on our way! The entire system is tested to determine why it failed and to ensure that there is no other potential problem.

Common Questions
Emergency AC Repair FAQs
What is considered an AC emergency in Central Florida?
Any problem that presents a health or safety threat due to failure of the air conditioning system is an air conditioning emergency. That line is crossed quickly in the humid summer in Central Florida. If it is hotter than 90, your vents smell like they are burning, water is pouring out of your air handler, it keeps tripping the breaker when you reset it, or the system is shut off when elderly adults or young children are in the home, it is a time for same-day attention.
What would be the reaction time of Air & Aero in case of an emergency call?
We are able to send as soon as possible, and for same-day deliveries during business hours, we strive to do the same. On all our trucks, we have common emergency parts that are in stock when we arrive on site, so that we’re not coming back to a supply house.
Will you be available for Saturday/Sunday calls for an additional fee?
We would not list the price online, since all repairs are unique, but we will state in advance any variations in price. A written estimate will be provided before any work is performed. No hidden charges on your bill.
If my AC smells like burning, what do I do?
Switch off the thermostat at once and then switch off at the main switch, the breaker. Shut off the thermostat and shut off the breaker box. If the smell of burning is coming from the air conditioner, it is likely that there is an issue with an electrical part of the unit: a contactor, a circuit board, or motor windings. If the system is running when a burning odor is detected, it can become a fire hazard when trying to repair it. Dial (407) 710-7168, do not turn on the system and open windows when the inside temperature is comfortable. Please do not turn the machine back on until a technician has checked it.
Will you be able to repair my AC on the same day as you come?
Yes, for the most frequently occurring emergency repairs, such as failed capacitors, tripped contactors, refrigerant problems, thermostat problems, a plugged drain line, and most electrical repairs. Those are parts our techs bring with them on the truck for just that reason. For parts that are not commonly used, we will be honest with you about your time and work on getting your part ordered and installed as soon as possible.
Does it have a guarantee on the emergency repair service?
Yes. Air & Aero repair work is guaranteed for its parts and labor. When your repair technician gives you the written quote, ask them about the specific protection that you will be getting for your repair. Whether it’s a Tuesday morning or Sunday afternoon, we’re here to support you in your call.
